French lapbooks will get your students engaged. It’s that simple.
Sometimes it’s hard to keep students motivated when all we do is use worksheets.
Don’t get me wrong – there’s a lot of value in worksheets.
However, worksheets don’t address all kinds of learning styles and abilities and, let’s face it, it can get pretty repetitive.
Interactive notebook activities have originated for many reasons, but one of them is to combat the overspread use of the mindless written practice.
I don’t know about you, but when I first saw interactive notebooks, they seemed great and all. Yet, I felt a bit overwhelmed – where should I start?
The thought of using interactive activities had never left me, though, and led me to create these interactive French lapbooks.
French Lapbooks
Lapbooks allow your and your students to benefit from interactive notebook foldables on a smaller scale.
Lapbooks can only hold a limited amount of interactive foldables, which makes them less overwhelming (as compared to the endless possibilities of an interactive notebook).
French lapbooks are a great starting point for those who want to explore the world of interactive notebooks.
It all starts with a blank file folder that is folded as in the Slideshare below:
After folding the file folder, each French lapbook is going to be different, but the idea is always the same: provide students with opportunities to practice what they’ve learned.
Foldable flaps, mini-books, tabs, shutterfolds, and more – they all serve the purpose of giving students ownership over their learning.
Learn how to fold a single-sheet, one-cut mini-book:
By creating the paper foldables, students engage with topics and subjects they’re studying.
Students’ retention improves as they will always be referring (physically or mentally) to the foldables in order to review and remember what they’ve studied in the classroom.
French lapbooks will truly change how your students interact with learning, but you don’t have to take my word for it.
French teachers have said it themselves (taken from feedback comments on the Lapbooks Bundle):
“Honestly some of the best French activities I’ve seen. I especially love the mini books. Merci!”
“Have used these with immersion and core students – they all love it!”
“My students love making these and it’s a great project for them to take home and show what they can do with the language. Merci.”
“Awesome resource that keeps on giving – you can’t go wrong! So many options, which allows me to adapt these genius lapbooks to suit the needs of my students. Merci beaucoup!”
“I am using this in my 5/6 class (not French Immersion) and so far really enjoying it. It is challenging for them but gives them lots of vocab to work with.”
