Teaching the five senses in French will give you plenty of opportunities to practice tons of vocabulary, including some very important verbs.
Today, I’m presenting you a very hands-on way of consolidating the teaching you do in class.
Think of it as a lesson capper – a cool project to finish a lesson on the five senses.
French Five Senses Lapbook – les cinq sens
This French Five Senses Lapbook includes foldable paper pieces that will give your students lots of meaningful practice.
They will:
- recap and consolidate what you have previously taught them (even if you taught them a little while ago)
- improve their image-word association skills and they will, therefore, increase active vocabulary
- improve critical thinking skills by ordering items (from quietest to loudest sound/noise)
- apply previous knowledge to come up with examples
- and so much more!
Let’s take a closer look at the activities included in this French Five Senses Lapbook!
Lapbook Cover
Everything in the file comes in B&W and color, including this lapbook cover.
To save on paper copies, have students create their own covers. Tell them to write “LES CINQ SENS” and draw images to represent each sense.
Labelling Activity
There are versions with boys and girls. The color version also includes different skin colors.
I have also included a version in which the sense of touch is pointing to the hand only and another version in which it is pointing to the whole body.
Choose the version you prefer.
Adjectives to describe things you touch
Writing words to describe hardness, texture, and temperature.
There are three pairs of images that represent contrasting words.
Students should fill in the blanks with the words to describe the pictures.
Ordering from quietest to loudest
There are five images. Students cut and paste them in order from quietest to loudest.
Count how many you see
There are four different images repeated a few times. If you’re using the B&W pages, you’ll see that even though the animals are very different, the illustrations present similarities, like circles and shapes, which might be mixed up if not observed carefully.
Students count the number of times the same animal is repeated and write the number in the corresponding box. They can also color and/or circle the animals with colored pencils/markers to support the counting.
Sense of Taste Foldable Flaps
There are four flaps, one for each taste: sweet (sucré), salty (salé), sour (acide), and bitter (amer).
You can have students simply name the taste by writing down the words “under” the flap, or you can have them list other items in that taste category.
Sense of Smell Matchbox Flaps
“Under” each flap, students can draw or paste pictures from magazines as examples of things that smell good or bad.
They can also write one word or a list of words.
Five Senses in Four Seasons
There are two versions of the mini-books, with and without illustrations. In both versions, students should complete the sentences. Choose between having the students draw their own examples or not.

This is the suggested layout for the foldable paper pieces.
Feel free, though, to arrange the parts as you think would work best for your students.

This French Five Senses Lapbook is available at my TpT store.
You can purchase it by itself, but it is also included in the MEGA Lapbooks Bundle, which is a much better deal because it includes ALL the lapbooks I’ve created AND the future ones as well!
